So we’re about take this ––as the movie, Her, calls it–– “socially acceptable form of insanity” that we call LOVE and do the unthinkable, celebrate it. Yes, we are celebrating love this week at the Berkeley Slam so bring in your poems that embrace this maddening, and possibly delusional concept and say F*^& it, or rather, F*^& yeah to love.

And to help us say F*^& yeah, will be the sensational poet and novelists, SARAH GRIFF! She just released her first book, “Not Lost” which chronicles her first year living in San Francisco after emigrating from her native Ireland.

We’ve also added a spotlight feature to our Valentine’s show in José Saramago Prize winning Portuguese author of Blank Gaze/The Implacable Order of Things, The Piano Cemetery, and Morreste-me,  José Luís Peixoto. He is one of Portugal’s hottest authors and has graciously agreed to stop by and do a couple of poems for the show.

Sign ups for the slam start at 7:30. All poems written to this week’s theme will get priority on the list. The season is in full swing so earn you way to compete for a spot to represent Berkeley at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland in 2014.

Your host for the night will be Toaster, with musical accompaniment by Three Blind Mice
