The Berkeley Poetry Slam featuring TAYLOR MALI!

Bringing you some of the best poetry from across the world, every week, since 2000.

This week we have Taylor Mali in the house! He’s a poetry slam legend, published author with Write Bloody Press, and the guy whose online videos all your teacher friends who’ve never went to a slam before keep emailing you.

Sign ups for the slam start at 7:30. Slam starts at 8:15. The season is in full swing so earn you way to compete for a spot to represent Berkeley at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland in 2014.

Your host for the night will be Dre, with musical accompaniment by Three Blind Mice

Taylor Mali is one of the most well-known poets to have emerged from the poetry slam movement and one of the original poets to appear on the HBO series “Def Poetry Jam.” A four-time National Poetry Slam champion, he is the author of two collections of poetry and a book of essays, “What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World.” In April of 2012, Mali completed a 12-year project of convincing 1,000 people to become teachers and marked the occasion by donating 12 inches of his hair to the American Cancer Society.
